Identify the sample and its purpose

Record the style, sample size, revision and review date. Clarify whether this is a visual prototype, fit sample or production approval sample. A sample made to demonstrate one feature may not represent every final material.

Review the product systematically

Compare upper materials, colour, shape, stitching, attachment, lining and finishing with the brief. Check fit and measurements using the agreed method. Add the product-specific test results needed to support the intended use.

Include the less visible details

Review labels, size marks, logo placement, retail packaging and carton instructions. Confirm any approved substitutions. Keep an issue list with an owner and a clear acceptance condition for each open item.

Record the release decision

Identify the accepted sample and technical file in the approval record. Specify any conditions that must be closed before production. Later changes should trigger a review of the affected specification, cost, timing and tests.
